Since I was a kid I have had a special relationship with the sea and the beach even before I had the use of reason.

Mundaka is the town where I was born and raised, growing as a person, absorbing the typical way of life of a northern coastal town: fishing, bathing in the port in summer with friends, winter swells… Adding that in during the autumn and winter months, surfers always came, from other countries, above all, to enjoy nothing more and nothing less than the best left wave in Europe.

I fondly remember the championships that were held in the town, receiving the best surfers in the world. That is how my curiosity and interest in surfing began, a sport that was already beginning to be practiced more frequently in the area. Since then, the dream of surfing the famous Mundaka wave has always haunted me, being able to be inside that powerful tube and share that illusion with all my friends.

And finally, I have fulfilled my dream, opening my surf school to help all those people who want to learn and improve their surfing techniques and who, like me since childhood, have grown up with that illusion and love for the sea.

Surfing along with teaching have always been my passion and way of life. I have been working as a surf instructor for more than 10 years and 5 as the technical director of my own school. Working in what I like is an honour, which is why I continue to train, because I want to be able to offer all my students complete and quality training that will help them in their sports career.

I’ve been surfing since I was 8 years old, and since then I can’t remember a day that I haven’t been near the sea and the waves. Surfing is my life and dream and I can’t imagine my life without it. Being able to work in what I like is a dream, and much more, being able to do it in the place where I also learned and grew as a surfer. For me, Mundaka Barra surf is not just a school, it is a big family, a family that for years I have seen how it has supported and continues to support new surfers.

Alex Larrozea

Instructor

  • ISA level 1 surf coach
  • Acuatic first aid
  • Degree in Physiotherapy

Contact with the sea and the waves has always been present in my life. When I was little I dreamed of the day I caught my first wave and since then I haven’t stopped. I have been surfing since I was 10 years old and surfing has given me sensations that no other sport has been able to give me. When you are in the water you forget about your problems and worries, and that makes you come out of the water with a smile on your face. Thanks to Gaizka and the school, as an instructor I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and transmit those sensations and unspeakable moments that surfing gives us. What I really like most about surfing is being part of a team that enjoys what it does and transmits values such as friendship, respect and commitment to the environment.

Imanol Mingo

I have been linked to Mundaka and surfing all my life, thanks to my father who taught me from a very young age. Later, I have been perfecting my technique and growing as a surfer with the Mundaka Barra surf school, where I have been working for 4 years. Our philosophy is based on providing a quality service to the student, teaching all the technical knowledge about surfing, as well as trying to transmit values of respect for our sidekicks and the environment, always with lots of fun and a good attitude.

Kai Barleta

Instructor

  • Acuatic first aid
  • EHSF 1 surf coach

From a very young age, surfing has been present in my life. My father has been surfing all his life and has passed on to me his passion for the sea and this sport. Mundaka apart is an incredible place both to learn and to perfect your technique, it is a magical place. I have been working as a surf instructor for 4 years at the Gaizka school, and surfing for more than 10 years. In my classes I try to transmit all the technique (of different levels) that I have learned in all these years, and above all, always the most important thing is respect for the environment and colleagues.

Safety, responsibility and respect for people, the sea and the environment are the basis of our training
